Maruey Knowledge & Resource Center

The Knowledge and Resource Center was established in 1975 with a mandate to establish itself as an information center for the Thai financial and capital markets as well as related disciplines and industries. It also set out to provide comprehensive information on companies listed on the Stock Exchange, statistical data on the securities market and information concerning related foreign institutions. The Center’s main objectives include: disseminating accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive information to investors; providing data that supports and assists investment decision-making; encouraging education research on the capital market; and, assisting the SET staff, brokers, sub brokers, listed companies, foreign broker representatives, institutional investors, students and general public access information.

Library Classifications

The Knowledge and Resource Center arranges its information resources as follows:

  1. Printed materials: Books, thesis papers, research reports, dissertation, conference documents, foreign institutional information, manuscripts and the archives of the SET, are classified and arranged in systematic order based on the Library of Congress classification scheme.
  2. Non-printed materials and electronic media: Video tapes, audio cassettes, disc files and CD-ROMs are assigned the special symbols.
  3. Periodicals and supplementary documents (including current and back issues): Current issues are classified by language, while back issues, which comprise a volume, are bound and classified for borrowing using a bar-code system.
  4. Listed companies: Information includes annual reports, prospectus, annual information reports (56-1). This listed company information is classified by industrial sectors.
  5. Brokerage research: This information classified by company name, institution and research center according to the analysis of which industrial sectors.
  6. Securities statistics: This includes monthly reviews, trading statistics, portfolio information, shareholder details, and the SET Daily. Each is classified according to the type of statistic.


Information Technology

The Knowledge and Resource Center uses the Exchanges computerized information service system (SET Smart) and its own automation system to handle and process information as follows:

  1. SET Smart
    It is made up of a wide range of computerized on-line systems developed to facilitate the provision of comprehensive, accurate and timely information to the general public regarding securities trading and listed companies.
  2. The Library Automation System
    The Knowledge and Resource Center has adopted the VTLS (Virginia Tech Library System) library automation system to help organize its information resources as follows:
    • The Cataloging/Data Management
    • OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalog)
    • Circulation Control
    • Acquisitions and fund Accounting
    • Serials Control
    • Journal Indexing
    • Imaging InfoStation
  3. Verifying User System
    This system stores data on individual users so identification cards can be used to identify and verify users via a bar-code scanner.
  4. Library Security System
    This safeguards the Center’s resources and ensures greater user satisfaction. It is completely safe for and type of magnetic product and so will not harm videotapes, audio tapes or computer diskettes. The system features a detection computer, dual book check, de-sensitizer and re-sensitizer.
  5. Closed Circuit Television System
    To provide additional security for users and the Center’s resources, six closed circuit television units have been installed in areas which cannot be monitored by staff.

Dos and Don’ts

1. Appropriate clothing is required at all times.
2. All bags must be left in the lockers provided before entering the Center.
3. Identification cards must be verified by the barcode scanner before entering the Center.
4. All mobile phones and any other type of communication device must be turned off while in the Center.
5. All patrons must try to remain quiet to avoid disturbing other users.
6. Knowledge and Resource Center staff reserve the right to inspect users’ belongings before they leave the Center.
